Happy Halloween! October is typically a rushed and hectic month at CDPA because of the variety of dance conference and performance events that our staff and dancers support. We have just returned from West Palm Beach where our dancers performed the piece Ceilidh Dances for the FDEO Conference Concert. FDEO is the Florida Dance Education Organization which is a Chapter of the NDEO for which I serve on the Board. It was great to attend the state conference (it was my first in the 6 years they have been in existence) and to be able to involve CDPA staff members and dancers. Karen Roper and Brittni Dell both attended the conference and enjoyed classes in modern technique, jazz techniques of Giordano and Luigi, sessions with Dr. Sally Fitt on kinesiology and body work, Alexander technique, Arts Integration and West African Dance. Our National Honor Society for Dance Arts students then joined us for the performance. It was very rewarding to be able to showcase our beautiful dancers amongst some of the best programs in the state!
This weekend many of our Highland dancers will head north to Stone Mountain Georgia for one of the toughest competitions of the season. The two day event is always a fun outing for us all! We hope to bring back great results. At the end of the month, Mrs Kim, Brittni, Mrs Jamie and I will be headed back to Atlanta but this time to attend the Costume Preview to select costumes for the recital. Like I said this is an exciting but BUSY time!
We hope to see you out Trick or Treating at the Downtown Halloween Festival on Wed, October 31st!

Hannah's Ballerina Dreams
Author: Elizabeth D. Krash
Several of our ballet classes have been exploring this book in class to learn more about ballet, here is what they have to say about it:
Ballet I II gave it 3 stars
Ballet II :
agreed it is a good children's book that teaches you a lot about ballet steps and other information about being a ballerina.
Synopsis:
Hannah, while getting ready to dance her first starring role, fondly recollects how far she has come since her first ballet class. She "remembers" her progression through basic ballet positions and techniques, jumping, turning, dancing with a partner and advancing through the ranks of a professional ballet company. Through her eyes, we also get a "behind the curtain" view of what goes into ballet performances. Full of beautiful, colorful, technically correct illustrations and proper ballet terms, this story is every aspiring ballerina's dream, including Hannah's!
This book is available on Amazon.

CDPA Kids Say the Darndest Things...
It was the first week of classes and Miss Ellen was drawing hearts for our 6:30 Creative Movement class when a dear little girl came to me and said...
"Miss. Can you tell her to draw me a new heart. My butt is too big for that one." Holding back the laughter, Ms. Kathryn asked Kaylee,
"Honey, would you repeat that for me please?"
Kaylee replied, "My BUTT is too BIG for that heart. Would you
please ask her to make me another one?"
