PERFORMANCE opportunities

• DANCE FESTIVALS and CONFERENCES

CDPA is NOT A COMPETITION SCHOOL. Typically, these events are cost-prohibitive, crowded and of little benefit to the student's technical training, although they can be FUN. On very rare occasions, CDPA students will participate in a competition, but it is usually in conjunction with a cause or local fund-raising event.

CDPA does encourage attendance at professional festivals and master classes and has taken students to the Florida Dance Festival, Pensacola Junior College Dance Workshop, FDF On Tour, FDEO Conference, daCi Conference, BATD North American conference, New York City, Chicago, and other clinics and workshops locally and throughout the state.

CDPA students have participated in the Summer program at Bates Dance Festival, American Dance Festival, Joffrey Ballet, Universal Ballet Academy, Central Florida Ballet Workshops and performances, Jr. Magic Dancers, Ms. Dancer International Pageant, Florida Dances Showcase, SBT (now Orlando Ballet) Nutcracker, Kick for K.A.R.E., Winter Garden Players productions, Civic Theatre of Central Florida productions, Girl Scouts USA Wider Opportunities Program, Orlando Repertory Theatre, school plays, and various theatrical summer programs and professional performance opportunities. Former students of CDPA have continued their dance training at Duke University, the University of South Florida, Florida State University, and University of Colorado . Others have danced professionally at Disney World, Sea World, Universal, Cross, and Sword, and with various college dance companies, cruise lines, and production companies, and appeared in TV movies and commercials. Audition notices & special event notices are posted in the studio.

• PERFORMING ENSEMBLE

The CDPA Performing Ensemble is the premier performance group affiliated with CDPA and at the heart of the CDPA family.

Participation in the group is by audition only. This is NOT a competition team. These students are exceptionally committed to their dance studies and the many ways in which dance can enhance their lives and the lives of others. In addition to taking a full complement of dance disciplines, most of these students are in the CDPA Assistant and Student Teacher program, members of NHSDA and actively engaged in CDPA Outreach programs. Additionally, these students are academically affirmed as a requirement of their participation and most are committed to a variety of extra-curricular activities which give them a broad range of experiences from which their creative energy is drawn. Auditions are held annually in May.

• CDPA SCOTTISH HIGHLAND DANCERS

The CDPA Scottish Highland Dancers are an integral part of the CDPA Family. Students study the traditional highland and national dances of Scotland, for both competition and recreational purposes but always within the context of the importance of the cultural inheritance of ancient values. These award-winning dancers compete along the Eastern seaboard and have traveled to Canada and Scotland.

• IN HIS NAME WE DANCE

In His Name...We Dance! was the vision and creation of Director. Kathryn Austin within the early years of the studio's performance history. Austin envisioned a "Contemporary Journey through the Christmas Story in Music and Dance" as a way to bring the community together in the reverence of the Christmas season. It would also become a tradition for CDPA students and a way for them to grow in their own faith as a part of their dance experience. Now, 18 years later, In His Name...We Dance! is just that and so much much more. While the production is primarily cast from the CDPA Performing Ensemble, other roles are open through audition.

Audition Wednesday, October 5 / 5:00 - 6:30pm
